日記じゃなくて月記になっているけど、継続は力なり、なので。それにしても物性研究所の所員でいるのもあと１ヶ月。４月からは大阪大学。
最近はネットで物件を色々調べられるので便利だが、問い合わせると決まってしまっているものもかなりある。まあ、転勤シーズンなので。やはり現地に行かねば、ということで急遽週末を使って関西へ。早朝、車で羽田へ。飛行機で伊丹へ。まず石橋・緑が丘近辺から。夕方、千里中央へ。このあたりは生活には便利そうだ。阪大へもモノレール２駅だし。そのまま千里中央の阪急ホテルに泊まる。そういえば十数年前に研究会がこのホテルであったのを思い出す。翌日は宝塚へ。不動産屋さんに案内してもらいチェックしていた物件を６つほど回る。Amazonで買った本に「10件内覧するまでは練習」と書いてあったのでそれを忠実に実行。比較して見ていると自分にとって何が重要かとか、建物のグレード感とか相場感とかが掴めてくる。建物をみるのはそもそも好きだし。でも、どうも関東の天気が怪しくなってくる。久しぶりの大雪で首都高速閉鎖、フライトキャンセルなど。ありゃ、帰れなくなったらどうしよう。宝塚線沿線を見るのをすっ飛ばして、再度、千里中央へ。１件だけ内覧して伊丹へ。羽田への飛行機はまた飛び始めていたので、できるだけ早いのに変えてください、といったらちょうど出発が遅れていたいた飛行機に乗れた。セキュリティを通過して待たずに機内へ。閉鎖解除になった首都高速もガラガラ。ちょっと幸せ。
アメリカへ出張。P.M.GehringがR.Cohenとオーガナイズした強誘電体の国際会議Ferro2008に、大和田・松浦・脇本の３氏と出席。場所はVirginia州のColonial Williamsburg。上江洲先生と愛弟子の横田さんも来ていた。G.Xu一家やSergey Vakhrushevも。Fundamental Physicsと銘打っているだけあって、なかなか面白い。リラクサーの話はあまりなかったけど。第一原理計算はさすがに多かった。弟が州都のRichmondに住んでいてホテルまで会いにきてくれた。多分、四年ぶりぐらい。帰りはRichmondを超えて西側にあるCharlottevilleにあるUniversity of VirginiaのSeunghun Leeを大和田さんと訪問。ちょうど古府さんがPostdocをしている。Despinaと蒲沢さんにも久しぶりにあう。夜はSeunghunの家へ。Sophia（知恵ちゃん）４歳がめちゃめちゃかわいい。翌日、Richmond空港からO'Hare空港に向かおうとしたら、客室乗務員のダブルブッキング（そんなことすんなよ）で飛行機が飛び立てず、シカゴで成田行きにのり損ねる。で、Unitedに用意してもらった空港近くのWyndhamホテルへ。どうものり損ねたときのためにバルクで契約しているみたいだ。悪くはない。せっかくなのでBlueLineで大和田さんとダウンタウンへ。結構時間がかかる。外はすさまじく寒い、というか、顔が痛い。Gibson'sという有名（らしい）ステーキハウスへ。えらく混んでいる。こりゃ入れないかな、と思ったら、予約席とオープン席があるという。試しに中に入ってみたら奥に一つだけテーブルが。僕はフィレミニオンを8oz.、大和田さんは骨付きのサーロインを16oz.注文。付け合わせも頼まず、ビールとステーキだけのハードボイルドな食事。8oz.で十分でした。木村・鬼柳・脇本組は昨年シカゴで24oz.のステーキを食べたらしいけど。翌日、帰国。成田で今度は大和田さんの荷物が出てこない。結局、ユナイテッドに羽田−神戸便を用意してもらい、それで帰宅したとのこと。お疲れさまでした。
阪大で新４年生の研究室見学日ということでまたまた伊丹へ。13:00からだというので、11:00羽田発にしたら、10分の遅れ。まあ、それぐらいならと思っていたら、離陸直前に「すみません、ドクターはいらっしゃいませんか！」の声。急病人が出たらしい。結局、ゲートにもどって乗客を降ろすことに。50分遅れで離陸。伊丹のゲートに着いたら12:50。うひゃーと思いながらタクシーに飛び乗って、豊中キャンパスへ。研究室についたら13:03だった。どんだけ近いんだ、阪大。谷口さんのガイダンスが良かったのか、ちゃんと志望の３年生が部屋で待っていてくれた。その後、学生が入れ替わりしながら旧河原崎研の学生部屋で話を続ける（実験室を見学させようにもないし）。途中に谷口さんと色々と打ち合わせ。
インフルエンザにかかる。今年はソ連Ａ型らしい。39度を超えてきつかったが、柏の葉キャンパス駅の近くにできたクリニック（なかなかいい感じだった）で処方されたタミフルが効いて週末には下がり始める。そういえば去年もインフルエンザにかかって、そのときは米国出張をとりやめたのであった。今年は所員会をキャンセル。
